We have been focusing on research and development of new materials combined with bioplastics since 2010 and we have developed the Agrobiofilm® mulch for agriculture.

Agrobiofilm® arose from a European research project coordinated by Silvex. It is a biodegradable film used to cover the soil (mulch) that replaces the fossil plastic. Made from renewable sources, this film contributes to the sustainability of agriculture practices, therefore ensuring environmental quality, natural resources preservation and higher quality and performances when compared to the traditional polyethylene (PE) mulch.

At the end of the crop cycle, this film is incorporated into the soil and fully decomposed by microorganisms, thus solving the problem of contamination of agriculture soils with PE plastic and the accumulation of these same plastics in landfills and dumps.

• The Agrobiofilm® mulch was granted with an honourable mention in the scope of Prémio Produto Inovação COTEC-ANI. 

Our solutions are suited to several types of crops, depending on the edaphoclimatic conditions of the crop site, the dimension of crops and their natural cycles:

• Cycles with less than 3 months: salads (lettuce, rocket, spinach, cornsalad)
• Cycles from 3 to 6 months: cabbage, potato, sweet potato, onion, tomato (fresh or industry), bell pepper, pumpkin, melon, watermelon, courgette, aubergine, rice, sweet corn, etc.
• Cycles from 6 to 12 months: physalis, strawberry
• Cycles longer than 12 months: vines and fruit trees
